Where it all began

Learning is experience. Everything else is just information. – Albert Einstein

From a very early age, Anyce was destined to be an entrepreneur. At age 8 she started a toy buying co-op with her friends. From age 12, Anyce worked in her parents’ Autobarn franchise and by 18 she was the Store Manager supervising 10 staff, maintaining the stock file, negotiating with suppliers and attending national conferences.

“I remember being the first kid at my school to have a mobile phone. I had a Nokia 5110 which I used to keep in contact with suppliers and the shop. Things didn’t wait just because I was studying my HSC. In fact, I spent the 2 weeks in the lead up to my final HSC exams on the Gold Coast at a trade show negotiating new stock lines with suppliers.”

After school, Anyce moved away to study Business Management at Charles Sturt University where she discovered a natural talent for Accounting. While she enjoyed the learning the theory of business, she far preferred learning by experience in the real world and continued working within Autobarn with other franchisees and the head office. When Anyce was 21, her father unexpectedly passed away. “The choice was really simple. I was needed in the real world to look after the shop. I really loved studying at uni, but it just couldn’t compete with what I was learning when I was working.”

Working with people

“At Starbucks, I’ve always said we’re not in the coffee business serving people, we’re in the people business serving coffee,” – Howard Behar

Sometime after her father passed away, the business was sold and Anyce was free to pursue other opportunities. With the family tragedy still fresh in her mind, she decided to explore Natural Therapies as a way to heal and help others. 3 solid years of study in Natural Therapies, Counselling, Coaching, NLP and Kinesiology with some of the top therapists in the world followed. Anyce worked with many people to overcome a wide variety of illnesses and conditions including helping some of her clients back from the verge of suicide. Human behaviour and the science of success were of particular interest to Anyce and it was there that she realised how valuable her new skills were in a business arena.

“I always knew it was my people skills that made me good in business, but now I was equipped with advanced skills that would guarantee my success in business. I enjoyed working with my clients and made a comfortable living but I was looking for a new challenge to step up to another level.”

Corporate success

“Set high standards and few limitations for yourself.” – Anthony J D’Angelo

Anyce’s first job back in the business world was replacing two admin staff in a property development company. There, Anyce worked her way up to the Office Manager position because of the constantly high standards she set for herself and the innovation and systems she brought to the role.

Anyce moved on to a Head of Accounts position in publishing to make use of her natural skills in accounting and to build on what she’d learnt as an Office Manager. The next logical step was into General Management which she did for the Broadband division of D2P, an IT company based in Melbourne. Anyce excelled in her role, her team was more productive and happy, customers were more satisfied and the division was more profitable. It was a challenging role, but very rewarding because it was there that she felt she had achieved her goal of proving her skills in the business arena.

A bookkeeping adventure

The first market need Anyce noticed she could add value to was the Bookkeeping industry. 2010 saw the introduction of the mandatory BAS Agent registration which meant an entire industry was up-skilling. Anyce saw an opportunity to go back into training and speaking which was a passion she discovered while running workshops as a therapist. Anyce worked with individual clients as a bookkeeper for 2 years while teaching to keep her skills current. In September 2012, She discovered Xero Accounting software and saw that the entire bookkeeping industry was on the verge of dramatic change. She immediately rebranded to Bookkeepers of Melbourne, restructured her company and business model and began employing staff.

Anyce could very clearly see what the majority of bookkeepers were ignoring. Bookkeeping as it had been would soon become extinct. The added value from the BAS Agent registration had done nothing more than raise prices and costs. The added value to businesses would come from automation and better information from accounting software, not the bookkeeper. The nail in the coffin was that the software is exponentially cheaper than a bookkeeper.

By mid 2013, with Bookkeepers of Melbourne turning over 6 figures and with 9 bookkeeping staff, Anyce’s profile among Xero bookkeepers  began to rise. She first spoke at the May Xero Roadshow as an example of how to become a Silver Xero partner. Then in July, she was invited to guest speak at the Australian Xerocon in Sydney where she presented sales skills for bookkeepers, entitled the “The Six Steps to Selling Xero”. You can view Anyce’s presentation on Youtube.

“If you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life.” – Marc Anthony

At Xerocon, Anyce met Crystal Mavroyeni, owner of BPO Connect, the largest bookkeeping and accounting company in Australia with over 200 staff in 3 countries. Their client list includes being official bookkeepers to McDonalds and KFC. Anyce and Crystal became good friends and wanted to work together so teamed up to provide BPO Connect services to Bookkeepers of Melbourne clients. The result was a better service offering for the clients because the range of services increased to include Tax Returns, Self Managed Super Funds, Accounting and CFO advice as well as bookkeeping.

Because of the strategy, resources and execution of the Bookkeepers of Melbourne business, Anyce is now free to pursue her interests at her leisure.

Working with the best

“Your network equals your net worth” – Kerwin Rae

With growth as one of Anyce’s highest values, she’s taken time out of her career to work with some of the top people in in the speaking industry. Apprenticeships of sorts, Anyce’s personal and professional growth skyrocketed when thrust into these high profile and high-performance situations.

In 2009 Anyce enrolled as a student at The Coaching Institute under the tuition of Sharon Pearson with the goal of attaining a Life Coaching Qualification. Anyce noticed the most interesting thing about The Coaching Institute was not the course content, but the business model. Keen to learn the behind the scenes of such a profitable business, Anyce dove into the deep end as Sharon’s Event Manager.

Working 14 hour days and pushing herself to new levels of hard work, she re-learnt everything she thought she knew about business but this time with killer strategy and the highest, million-dollar standards. After working with Sharon for even a short time, Anyce was completely changed inside and out.

“The best CEOs I know are teachers, and at the core of what they teach is strategy.” ― Michael Porter

The next opportunity Anyce had to work with a business legend was in 2013. Anyce relocated her life from Melbourne to Sydney to work for speaker, mentor and businessman Kerwin Rae. Quickly becoming a core member of his team, Anyce learnt and made improvements in almost every aspect of the business.

Focusing on Systems, Automation and Marketing with Kerwin for over 3 years, Anyce developed Kerwin’s Infusionsoft application by creating complex, yet simple to use automation processes that handled everything from collecting and nurturing new leads, event registrations, internal processes and sales.

Having the exposure and the opportunity to work with some of the top people in the digital marketing industry, Anyce’s skills and intuition grew and her work in Infusionsoft has been praised as being in the top 1%.

Living a life you love

Having gone trough tremendous personal development from dealing with:

  • Her father’s death
  • An abusive relationship
  • Chronic fatigue and adrenal exhaustion
  • Morbid obesity and subsequent weight loss
  • MTHFR (a genetic condition)
  • Marriage breakdown

Anyce has been open and shared with others how she’s worked through each of those issues. Constantly being told what an inspiration she has been to others going through similar things, she’s returned to what makes her heart sing, and that’s working with individuals to inspire them get a life they love.

Anyce’s main focus these days is on enjoying life. She maintains her existing businesses on the side and is most passionate about Life Coaching and educational programs that help others enjoy as much happiness and success as she has had.
